About Asige

Where the plains meet the forest – history, nature and legends in Halland.

Asige lies in the heart of Halland, where the plains meet the forest – just 4 km from the E6 motorway between Halmstad and Falkenberg. A legend-steeped area with a thousand years of history, beautiful scenery, and forest, sea or lake always close by.

History and legends

There is a historical mystique about Asige. Even in prehistoric times the area seems to have been a central place – the large number of ancient monuments and archaeological finds bears witness to it. The area is also tied to the story of the lovers Hagbard and Signe, a well-known Nordic saga from the Viking age.

Ancient remains to discover include Hagbards galge in the middle of the village, Signes källa (Signe’s spring) and old burial grounds. The brochure I spåren av Hagbard och Signe includes a map to the sites.
